Peace Day Hawaii, 2014:  In 2007, Governor Linda Lingle signed House Bill 345 into law as Act 23, declaring  “September 21st of each year shall be known and recognized as “Peace Day” to promote peace programs, improve international relations, and increase educational awareness of peace.” …This year, for the first time, there are two recipients [of the Distinguished Peacemakers Award], Roy Sakuma and Kathy Sakuma. They have dedicated their lives to peace education by teaching and perpetuating the Aloha spirit through the art form of the ukulele.


Peace Day Hawaii, 2013:  The Sixth Annual Peace Day Hawaii will be held at the Urban Garden Center in Pearl City on Saturday, September 21, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. The Distinguished Peacemaker Award will be presented to Kumu Ramsay Taum, and the Lei of Peace that began at Forgiveness Day and the birthday of Queen Lili’uokalani will be extended, to travel on to Beijing for the Five Principles of Peace celebration. Former State Representative Lyla Berg will speak at the closing. This family event is free to all, and features natural food, live music, dancing and drumming from several cultures.


Peace Day Hawaii 2012:  The UGC will be open to the public between 1-5 pm to explore the gardens. The formal inauguration ceremony will be 3-4pm with dedication of the Peace Gardens Pathways, guest speaker Maya Soetoro-Ng, live music by Jeff Peterson, entertainment, refreshments & the launching of the first three peace gardens.
